Sour Cream Drop Cookies

This is a good recipe from Mom; unfortunately, mine have never tasted as good as hers.

1/2 c. soft shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 squares (2 oz.) unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 c. thick sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
2 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts

Cream together the shortening, sugar, and eggs; mix in the melted chocolate, sour cream, and vanilla.

In separate bowl, sift together the flour, soda, baking powder, and salt; stir into chocolate mixture.  Add chopped nuts and mix well; refrigerate at least one hour.

Drop by rounded teaspoons onto baking sheet.  Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 8-10 minutes, or until a slight imprint remains when touched.

Icing:

1 tbsp. butter
1 square (1 oz.) unsweetened chocolate
3 tbsp. milk
1 1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar

Melt butter and chocolate together.  Stir in milk and sugar.  Thin with additional milk as necessary to make icing glossy and easy to spread.  Frost onto cooled cookies.
