Scotcharoos


I’d almost forgotten about this recipe, until Matt had some at their garage sale.  They’re far too sweet for frequent consumption, but a nice treat once in a while!

1 c. light corn syrup
1 c. sugar
1 c. smooth peanut butter
6 c. crispy rice cereal
1 c. semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1 c. butterscotch morsels

In large saucepan, mix syrup and sugar.  Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until sugar dissolves and mixture begins to boil.  Remove from heat and stir in peanut butter.  Add cereal, stirring to mix well.  Press into buttered 9×13 pan.

In small pan, melt chocolate and butterscotch chips over low heat.  Spread evenly over cereal mixture.  Cool and cut into small squares.
