Kim Beck’s Toffee Bars

Kim brought these for a goodie-sharing day at work – yummy!

Crust:
½ c. sugar
½ tsp. salt
1 c. flour
½ c. butter

Stir sugar, salt, and flour together.  Blend in butter and mix until crumbly.  Press into a greased 9″ square pan and bake at 350º for 15 minutes.

Middle Layer:
1 14-oz can sweetened condensed milk
2 tbsp. butter
¼ tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla

Stir condensed milk, butter, and salt on low heat until the butter melts, about 5 minutes.  Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.  Pour over the baked crust and bake at 350º for 12-15 minutes.

Topping:
1 oz. unsweetened chocolate
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. hot water
1½ c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Heat chocolate and butter in a sauce pan; stir until melted and blended.  Remove from heat and add powdered sugar; blend well and add hot water and vanilla.  Spread over warm bars.
