Tufa Plant Pots

“Recipe” from Martha Stewart, as interpreted by Deb:

3 parts perlite
3 parts peat moss
2 parts Portland cement
Acrylic fibers for larger pots

Add water a little bit at a time until the mixture is the consistency of moist cottage cheese.  Spray the pot mold with cooking oil spray; press mixture into the mold to ¾ inch thickness, and press firmly. Remember to make a drainage hole.  Place in a large plastic bag and let cure 48 hours.

Use a wire brush to rough up the surface, and let dry another 2 -3 weeks.

For larger pots use more Portland cement, and reinforce with acrylic fibers (mesh sheetrock tape works) to strengthen.
